According to the Business Post, worldwide demand for psychology professionals is expanding at a rate of 22% per year.
The Psychology Project Team: Establishment of a National Psychology Placement Office reported that Ireland is scheduled to accept 297 clinical, counselling, and education psychology trainees in 2021/22, 300 in 2022/23, and 297 trainees in 2023/24.
Course Overview
The Diploma in Psychology online emphasises psychology as the scientific study of the mind and behaviour, specifically how the mind works and how it influences behaviour. This diploma incorporates the multifaceted nature of psychology, ensuring you gain a thorough understanding of cognitive psychology, development (child to adult) psychology, and social psychology. You will also be able to gain a better understanding of yourself and a better appreciation of the differences between others.
Psychology affects our everyday lives and it can be a great tool for helping us understand why we and others might behave in certain ways and exhibit certain patterns of behaviour.
On successful completion of this online psychology course you will be able to:
- Describe the key concepts and theoretical perspectives of the main areas within the field of psychology.
- Evaluate the internal processes associated with cognitive psychology, neurobiology, and the brain
- Demonstrate insight into how psychology evolves over the lifetime of a person with particular attention paid to childhood and critical developmental years
- Outline how our social world influences our thoughts, emotions, and perception
- Outline treatment options including but not limited to cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
- Demonstrate awareness of psychiatric diagnosis, with a focus on schizophrenia diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment outcomes.
Assessment
To assess your knowledge of this psychology course online, you will complete an assignment to complete in your own time and submit it at the end of the term. There will be no formal exam.
What is a Professional Diploma?
An IBAT Professional Diploma is a focused, short-duration practical course that consolidates, upskills and/or reskills learners in a professional area. It is a stand-alone qualification that does not lead to an award on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ).
Career Opportunities
The final topic on the syllabus addresses careers in psychology, so students will graduate with a clear direction on which career path they would like to pursue. These paths may include clinical psychology, health and occupational psychology, counselling and therapy, and educational and learning psychology. A diploma in psychology in Ireland can also open doors in the human-centred aspects of businesses such as human resource management and marketing.

Entry Requirements
